$MBI is the operational currency of the Bureau — the unit of account for tip submissions, bounty payouts, agent salaries, and community governance votes. Acquiring $MBI is a three-step process that any Chain Citizen with a smartphone and a basic understanding of decentralized exchanges can complete in under ten minutes.

Phantom is the Bureau’s recommended self-custody wallet for the Solana network. Open the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) on your mobile device and search for Phantom — Crypto Wallet. Verify the developer is Phantom Technologies, Inc. before tapping GET.
Once installed, create a new wallet. Write down your 12-word seed phrase on paper. Do not screenshot it. Do not type it into iMessage. Do not store it in a Notes app called “wallet recovery thing”. The Bureau cannot recover funds lost to phished seed phrases. Nobody can.

You cannot buy $MBI directly. You must first acquire Solana (SOL), the native asset of the Solana network. Within the Phantom app, tap Buy on the home screen to purchase SOL with a debit card, Apple Pay, or bank transfer via Phantom’s on-ramp partners (MoonPay, Coinbase Pay).
Alternatively, if you already hold SOL on a centralized exchange — Coinbase, Binance, Kraken — tap Receive, copy your Solana deposit address, and send SOL to your Phantom wallet from the exchange’s withdrawal interface. We recommend transferring at least 0.1 SOL for your first purchase, leaving headroom for network fees.
Approximate time: 5–15 minutes depending on KYC. Difficulty: low.
From the Phantom home screen, tap Swap. Set the “You pay” field to SOL and enter the amount you wish to spend. In the “You receive” field, tap the token selector and paste the $MBI contract address from the top of this page.
Phantom will surface the $MBI token. Verify the ticker, the icon, and the contract match before proceeding. Tap Review, confirm slippage tolerance (the Bureau recommends 1–3% on first purchase), and tap Swap. The transaction settles in approximately 400 milliseconds. Your $MBI balance will appear in your Tokens list.
